Career[]

Connelly started her career as a child model, appearing in clothing catalogues and advertisements. She received her first film role in Sergio Leone's gangster-epic Once Upon a Time in America when she was eleven years old, and went on to appear in a number of other films throughout the 1980s including Phenomena (1985), Labyrinth (1986) and Some Girls (1988).

In 1990 Connelly appeared in Dennis Hopper's The Hot Spot, and the next year appeared in The Rocketeer. After appearing in a range of low profile films throughout the 1990s, Connelly had her big break in 2000 with Darren Aronofsky's critically acclaimed indie film, Requiem for a Dream. Her performance in that film gave her a nomination for The Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, however this achievement was topped in 2002 by the numerous accolades (including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress) she received for her performance as Alicia Nash in A Beautiful Mind (2001).

Connelly has featured in films consistently throughout the 2000s, from the super-hero film Hulk (2003) to the controversial drama Creation (2009). Her last films released were The Dilemma and Salvation Boulevard in 2011.
